The title of this post is what my dad said to me the other day.
I have no classes for this entire week. Being at home is unhealthy as it makes me feel lazy and my dad feels the same thing too. So he decided to give me a task, a task long denied by me with various reasons and excuses.
Not this time though.
He told me that I am to teach a small class of Form2s History. Saturday, that is today, 10-11am. No excuses T_T
I was quite reluctant. He felt that and immediately I regretted it. The next thing was a windy lecture on how I should begin to shoulder responsibility, earn my own pocket money, and et cetera. I didn't really listen, but I have to be ready for the class...
It was cold this morning, with a hot NBA game going on between the Celtics and the Magic. I watched the fourth quarter and had to abandon it halfway to prepare myself for the class. My mind was swirling with Dad's 'good-intentioned' assurances that the class is very 'guai' (obedient) and won't cause any trouble, as I drove to the centre.
I met them for the first time, beginning with my customary smile and 'Hi'. I really smiled. After getting to know their names, I begin the class.
As I speak on, I begin to feel a little more confident. Especially when they begin to respond with measured smiles. My Malay was sluggish from underused, and I stumbled across several terms and sort. Nevertheless, I managed to catch their attention. There were several yawns in the beginning, yes, but eventually we all had fun. :D
The one hour was over in a blink of an eye. We rounded up the answers and I thanked them for their cooperation. They left in good nature, and I was the last to leave the room.
While driving home, I recalled back and found that I actually enjoyed teaching. Little might know about it, but I used to seriously consider taking up the noble profession of teaching. I enjoyed imparting knowledge to young minds and stirring their interest towards the subjects they are learning. To think that days ago I was shunning the idea of appearing before half a dozen of students and 'teaching' them was indeed hilarious.
Come to think of it, both my parents are tuition teachers. Could teaching be my hidden talent? Is it in my gene? Whoa... O.o
